Other Events and Activities—The City of Madison Annual Christmas Parade, the harvest-time Scarecrow Festival, the summer FreedomFEST, the Hundog Show, a spring HomeExpo show, the German Fest, Cajun Fest, A Day In the Country at the historical Chapel of the Cross, the spring and fall Canton Flea Market, the Hot Air Balloon Festival, as well as monthly bridge games and classes. An active Chamber of Commerce and the City’s Recreation and Parks Department continue to provide family and community events that underscore the hometown spirit of Madison.
MSCA provides classes in all art forms, sponsors a performing arts series, information services, incubator studio space for artists, and other programs to meet the cultural needs of the community. The performing arts series has served up everything from Broadway tunes to blues at twilight and classical concerts as well as musicals and other theatrical productions.
Madison Square Center for the Arts (601-853-0291)—Located on Main Street, this 1890 building, originally constructed as a school, is listed on the National Register for Historic Places and serves as the heart of the city’s vision for providing opportunities for awareness and participation in the arts for its residents. It is the home of the Mississippi Metropolitan Ballet Company.
