Did you know
that runoff from our neighborhoods and streets are polluting our lakes, creeks,
streams and rivers?

The City of
Stormwater Pollution occurs
as water flows across the ground and picks up debris, chemicals, dirt, and
other pollutants and deposits them into a storm drain system or water
body. Storm drains are a non-treated system! The water that flows into your storm drains will
end up in the drainage basins mentioned above. Homeowners contribute to pollutants
that enter
soil yard
debris
oil trash
and litter
fertilizers pesticides/herbicides
animal waste household
hazardous waste
car washing paints
and chemicals
So YES, what we do in our neighborhood
and how we treat our environment is important to the quality of water and the
ecosystems from
SO WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP

Here are a few things that
homeowners can do to help reduce stormwater pollution.
· Keep grass clippings and
trash out of the street and gutters. Compost or bag them.
· Reduce fertilizer
and pesticide use.
· Recycle used motor
oil don’t dump! Most automotive stores collect waste oil.
· Park your car on the
grass before washing.
· Spread the word
about protecting our
waters
to friends and neighbors.
· Put litter in its
place.
· Take
your old tires, batteries and paint to the Madison County Road Department in
(601) 859-1031
· Clean
up after your pet.
· Clean
paint brushes in a sink, not outdoors.
