Department of Parks & Recreation

   

Recreational Activities

Several recreational sports activities, played at Liberty Park, are offered through the Madison Ridgeland Youth Club (MRYC) and the South Madison County Soccer Organization (SMCSO). Both of these organizations handle all of the administrative duties which include registration and organization of teams. We maintain Liberty Park for their use. You may register for some of the activities at the Parks and Recreation office located at 1239 Highway 51. (Please check web-site for specific registration information.)

MRYC offers the following sports:

Baseball

  • Spring baseball is offered for ages 4-18 (must have turned 4 by May 1st. Registration is in late December and January. Once registration is completed, no registration fees will be refunded. Registration for ages    4-6 only may register through the end of March.

  • Summer baseball is offered for ages 5-14 (must have turned 5 by May 1st. However, all leagues must have a minimum of 44 players in order to play. Should a league not form, your registration fee will be refunded. Registration is offered mid-May.

  • Fall Baseball is offered for ages 5-14 (must have turned 5 by May 1st. However, all leagues must have a minimum of 44 players in order to play. Should a league not form, your registration fee will be refunded. Registration is offered mid-August. Games are played on Sunday afternoons for six weeks beginning after Labor Day.

Fast pitch Softball

  • Spring Fast Pitch Softball Leagues are available for girls 4-14 (must be between these ages by January 1st). Registration begins in January and early February. MRYC regularly coordinates with other local community organizations to provide league play for individuals living outside the Madison/Ridgeland area. Depending on the number of registrants each season, certain age groups may not have enough players to form a league. In that event, MRYC will refund registration fees.

  • Fall Fast Pitch Softball Leagues are available for girls 7-14 (must be between these ages by January 1st). Registration for the fall season occurs in late August and early September. MRYC regularly coordinates with other local community organizations to provide league play for individuals living outside the Madison/Ridgeland area. Depending on the number of registrants each season, certain age groups may not have enough players to form a league. In that event, MRYC will refund registration fees.

Tackle Football

  • Tackle Football is offered for ages 8-12 (must be 8 by September 1st). Registration begins mid June and ends around the middle of September.Depending on number of registered participants, combined age groups may be divided into individual ages. On-line registration is available at www.mrycfootball.com.

  • Cheerleading is offered along with the tackle football program for ages 8-12 (must be 8 by September 1st). Cheerleaders will perform at tackle football games. More information on this program and registration is available at  http://www.mryccheerleading.com/index.aspx. 

Basketball

  • Basketball is offered for ages 5-18 (must be 5 by September 1st). Registration takes place in mid September. Practices will begin in early December with games starting after January 1st. All games are held at various Madison County Schools.

Soccer

South Madison County Soccer Organization offers soccer in our area.

  • Spring Soccer is offered for ages 4-18 (must be 4 years old by July 31st). Registration is held in late November through December 15th each year. Walk up registration is held in the courtroom of the Madison Police Department across from Rosa Scott, please check their web-site for dates. You may also register at the Madison Parks and Recreation office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Fall Soccer is offered for ages 4-18 (must be 4 years old by July 31st). Registration is held June 1st - July 15th each year. Walk up registration is held in the courtroom of the Madison Police Department across from Rosa Scott, please check the SMCSO web-site for dates. You may also register at the Madison Parks and Recreation office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
