This year's Christmas Parade on Dec. 5 will be a "reverse" parade where the floats, dance groups and bands will remain in their spots within the line-up, and viewers will drive past to enjoy the holiday event in Liberty Park. The theme of this year's parade is Christmas Through the Decades.
No pedestrians will be allowed as cars drive by to see the decorated floats, watch the dancers and listen to the bands, 9-10 a.m. on the first Saturday in December. All cars will enter the park from Grandview Boulevard, drive past the parade participants and then exit back to Grandview Boulevard. No parking will be allowed along the parade route for the viewers.
Registration is now open for those wishing to be part of the parade. There will be one overall category for floats to compete for first, second or third place. There will be no award ceremony after the last car views the parade, but winners will be announced that day on the city's Facebook page. The registration deadline is Monday, Nov. 23, and the form needs to be returned to Brittany Mayfield at firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed to Parks & Recreation, 1239 Hwy. 51, Madison, MS, 39110.
