Madison’s fire insurance rating has improved from a Class 6 to a Class 5, effective Jan. 6.
The Mississippi State Rating Bureau’s classification system, ranging from 1 to 10, ranks a community’s municipal fire protection system for property insurance rating purposes. An improved rating can result in lowered premiums for home, property and commercial building insurance. Reductions depend on several variables and will vary by insurance company. The class number is one of several categories used in developing an individual’s fire insurance rate. Homeowners should direct questions about their individual policies to their insurance agents.
“This is good news because the city continues its commitment to helping citizens lower their insurance rates,” Fire Chief Derrick Layton said.
