Hurricane Francine – This Event Has Ended

9/12/24 – 9:00am
The City of Madison is now mostly clear of Francine. We will still have some lingering winds and potential for flash flooding. There are isolated power outages and Entergy is working to restore the affected areas as soon as they can.

City offices are open today with regular business hours. Madison County Schools remain closed until tomorrow.

9/11/24 – 6:00pm
The US National Weather Service of Jackson is still predicting 4-6″ of rainfall for Madison, which may lead to flash flooding. Wind gusts are still showing potential to reach a peak of 30-45mph between the times of 3AM – 10AM on Thursday (9/12), potentially causing downed trees, power lines, and roadblocks. Stay weather aware, make a plan, and remember: if roads are covered with water, turn around, don’t drown!

Waste Management will not be picking up tomorrow (9/12). Thursday routes will be picked up on Friday and Friday routes will be picked up on Saturday.

NOAA and the National Hurricane Center have declared Francine a Category 2 Hurricane.

9/11/24 – 1:40pm
Madison County School District: Classes are cancelled for Thursday, September 12, 2024, and all after school activities are cancelled for Wednesday, September 11. As noted in the governor’s state of emergency declaration, Hurricane Francine is expected to bring strong storms and the potential for widespread power outages in our area. All MCS buildings will be closed, and we will not hold school in-person or via distance learning on Thursday. Please stay safe and weather aware.
