Madison County Schools is a top-rated district in the state, and all public schools in the city of Madison are “A” rated by the Mississippi Department of Education for superior student academic achievement.
Three elementary schools are in the city of Madison. Madison Avenue Elementary (grades K-2), Madison Avenue Upper Elementary (grades 3-5), and Madison Station Elementary (grades K-5), which has twice been named a National Blue Ribbon School. Our elementary schools have a distinguished track record of excellence in academics, arts integration, character development, and fitness and wellness. All three schools provide top-level academics as well as immersive art experiences, including music, choir, dance, visual arts, theater arts, and media arts. Students also have opportunities for robotics, computer coding, chess, and strings during the school day. Throughout the school year, students participate in grade-level performances, take field trips, and work with guest artists and authors, and enjoy using cutting-edge technology in every classroom. Students serve their community through a variety community service activities throughout the school year, developing hearts for helping others.
Students in the city of Madison begin sixth grade together at Madison Middle School. Our current enrollment is 1,271 students in grades six through eight. We are currently rated as an “A” school by the Mississippi Department of Education and ranked as the #1 middle school in the state of Mississippi based on achievement scores! Our students also excel in a number of extra-curricular activities, including mathematics, music, arts, and athletics. Students can participate in a variety of sports, including cheer, dance, soccer, football, basketball, track, tennis, swimming, and more. The tradition of service continues at MMS as students participate in a canned food drive and fundraisers for Make-A-Wish, Children’s of Mississippi, and St. Jude. Students have opportunities to participate in the school band, school-wide musical theater performances, choir, robotics, and more. There is a place for students with all different interests at Madison Middle School!
The ninth-grade year is a special time of transition to high school, and students in Madison enjoy this grade in their own school at Rosa Scott. Based on superior test scores, Rosa Scott School is an “A” rated school by the Mississippi Accountability System. Rosa Scott was also recently recognized by Business Week magazine as the Top Academic-Performing High School in Mississippi. Rosa Scott School has an enrollment of approximately 400 students. In addition to a strong college-preparatory curriculum, Rosa Scott offers the extracurricular activities in athletics, band, choir, dance, JROTC and more than 20 clubs. Rosa Scott students have the opportunity to participate in over 13 Varsity Sports through Madison Central. Rosa Scott prides itself on promoting community involvement and promotes a sense of giving. We participate in numerous fundraisers, including the Mississippi Food Network’s canned food drive, Operation Christmas Child, Make-a-Wish, March of Dimes and Relay for Life.
Over the past 30 years, Madison Central High School has proven to be “The Mark of Excellence” through its many academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs. With 1,214 students enrolled in grades 10-12, MCHS is one of the largest public high schools in the state. MCHS offers Accelerated, Advanced Placement, and College credit courses in numerous subject areas: English, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Science, Art and Social Science. Specific Advanced Placement courses are offered in Biology, Chemistry, English (Literature and Language) and Composition, Calculus, Statistics, Spanish, World History, U.S. History, Human Geography, U.S. Government, US Comparative Government, Macro Economics, Psychology, and Art 2D and 3D. College credit courses are offered in English and Algebra.
Madison Central was recognized as one of the “Top Ten Best High Schools in America” by Redbook magazine, which considered such factors as superior academic and extra-curricular achievement coupled with parental and community involvement. Madison Central has a strong track record of performance in arts, athletics, and academics, including 130 current students scoring 30 or above on the ACT as well as 21 National Merit Semifinalists in the Class of 2022. Madison Central has won seven state championships in athletics in 2021 and 2022, including a national baseball championship, and the band consistently receives All-Superior ratings. The MCHS choirs, show choir program, and debate team bring home top honors, including state championship honors in speech and debate. Along with a wide breadth of core academic courses, students can choose from a variety of outstanding elective courses from ceramics and engineering to video production and theater. Madison Central is home to two academy programs, including the award-winning model Academy of Engineering and Academy of Multimedia Communications.
